All of our rings are solid gold -- never hollow.
This is a reproduction of a very old ring that I purchased for scrap over 25 years ago. The ring at the time was very scratched and worn down, with very little detail left. Before melting any antique ring down I have always made a point of taking a closer, look to determine if it is worth salvaging. Do I keep it, refurbish it, or scrap it?
I chose to clean up the ring and sold it as it. Not surprisingly it sold very quickly even in it's poor condition. Prior to selling it I did go ahead and make a copy. From that copy/mold I was able to recast the original ring which I then re-engraved, sharpening some of the worn out detail from the sides of the ring without being too aggressive.
The end result is what you see before you. A reproduction of a slightly worn antique men's ring that can now be appreciated by current and future generations. A ring that can become a family heirloom, passed on down to future generations.
I am not sure of the original age of the ring, nor where it came from, but if you are like me it does not matter. It is a classic example of old world craftsmanship and design. A great addition to my men's rings. There are so few nice men's ring designs. Men's rings are the most under represented category in the industry. Most rings on the market are typically and poorly designed and always far too light. I am trying to change this by offering tasteful, well constructed, clean and timeless designs with a good heft to them.
I currently offer a lot of very simple clean solid rings for men. I do have a lot of old style designs that I will be adding to my collection over the next few months. So please check back with us. If you are looking for something unusual and classic, perhaps if you have an old design that you would like reproduced please contact us. We welcome the opportunity to help create something special for you.
This ring can be modified to take any oval, or emerald cut gemstone. So if you have your own gemstone, or would like us to find one for you please contact us for details and prices. This ring will take any size stone from a small of an 8x6mm to as large as an 11x8mm. The ring can also be purchased as a blank mounting, or as is. I stock just about every type of gemstone, so if you like the ring and would like to order it with a different gemstone please contact us.
STONE SETTING: Please note that the center stone has not been fully set. In some listings a space will be seen between the edge of the stone and the bezel edge. I cast these rings to order so the dimensions of the stone and the ring size are adjusted prior to casting.
By casting the ring to order you can order the ring in whatever color you desire and most importantly the center stone can be perfectly and safely set in a ring cast for it. Heavy rings are very difficult to resize so by casting the ring in your size we eliminate any chance of distorting a ring.
This ring is also available as a mounting for your stone, or if you are looking for a particular gemstone please let us know we stock just about every type and if we do not have it we can source it for you.
The last images shows how the ring will be finished and in one of the smaller images you can see the ring on my hand. My little finger is a size 8 and has been added go give you a better sense of scale.
This is as fine and elegant a man's ring as you will ever find. The perfect blend of a fine gemstone matched up with a clean classic solid gold ring. Good solid weight, nicely distributed to give the ring an even weight so that it will not spin. There is nothing worse than a top heavy ring that constantly spins, or flip flops back and forth.
The base of the shank is approximately 4.0mm wide and rounded on the edges to make it comfortable. The inside of the ring is also solid with smooth sides to help prevent it from moving and most importantly to make the ring comfortable to wear. The widest part of the ring is approximately 10.5 to 11.0mm. The height of the ring is again approximately 6 to 7mm high, and can vary depending on the depth of the stone. The weight of the ring will fall between 13.5 to 15.5 grams, and as with all the other approximations will vary a little because each of these rings are cast to order and finished by hand. The weight will also vary depending on the ring size you order.
The ring is shown with slightly thicker sides which are no less than 2.5mm thick. The original antique ring had very thin <1mm> sides which left the ring very uncomfortable, but was typical of older ring. I have added gold to the design to make it more comfortable and hopefully will last many more generations.
The ring in the images is a size 9, so any larger size up to a size 12 will fall within the weight range. Anything smaller will be slightly lighter, and anything larger that a size 12 will still fall within the same weight range. The only variance will be in the thickness of the shank. The shank will never be less than 1.8mm which is still about 1mm thicker than most men's rings found anywhere else.
I try to set the center stone level with the top edge of the bezel. If you are interested in having the stone set as low as possible please let me know. I can also set the stone so that it comes in contact with the skin of your finger. Lowering the stone might reduce the overall weight of the ring by no more than 2 grams. Loss of gold weight offsets added labor cost to set your stone to your specs.
This ring is shown in 14k whitet gold and is also available in 14K Yellow (shown), and 14K Rose. Each of these rings is made to order so there will be slight variations to the finished piece, but only to the overall corners and slopes of the ring. The primary look of the ring in the images will always be consistent. High thick raised bezel, solid shank, and of course the final gold weight.
All metal is refined in-shop.
