A family affair

Our resident artisan, Stephen Muscat, was born in the tiny Mediterranean island nation of Malta to a working class family. His father, ever an artisan in his own right, was constantly working with various locally-sourced metals and other readily-available materials to create all manner of art and miscellanea. Whether it was a sculpture of sea life or even a pair of brass knuckles, there was always something to be crafted.

Naturally, it wasn’t long before Stephen took an interest in creating things himself. After his family relocated to Arizona when he was a teenager, Stephen finished his education and worked for a time in an assortment of occupations, but was never truly satisfied with the typical humdrum employment of modern American life.

Fast forward to shortly after getting married to his wife Elizabeth and the birth of his two sons, Alex and Will, Stephen decided it was finally time to pursue what he had always known to be his true passion — craftsmanship. He bought some books & equipment, quit his job, and got learning. After some time selling at local flea markets and building a clientele, he eventually was able to set up shop right at home and sell on eBay (quite the lavish upgrade from the swap meet). eBay turned to Etsy, and Etsy led here! …With his son Will joining the team along the way.

Nearly 30 years after his humble and frankly risky entry into the business, independence and relative stability can finally meet. We sincerely hope you’re able to find your perfect piece with us, and share in our love for the craftsmanship we’ve been honing for decades — and ultimately know that by shopping with us, you’re supporting an art form that is slowly withering away, and helping to keep that art alive.
